Hello wonderful 6th grade families! 

Welcome to science and social studies with Mrs. Matej!  This year we will be learning amazing things about space, the ecosystem and human impact on the environment in science and about all the ancient civilizations in social studies.  Sixth grade has wonderful and exciting standards in both areas of study! 

Most of our work can be found on Canvas with the day and date listed on each subject. We tend to do most of our work in class, as the students have direct access to me, if questions arise about what we are learning. If your child is absent, you can also look at Canvas to see what we are up to on that specific date just so they know what they are missing.   We also send home a weekly newsletter to help keep families up to date with all the events and education happening in 6th grade.  Look for that in your inbox on Sunday evenings! 

As the year progresses, we will be splitting the quarters to make our curriculum flow a bit better and make it easier for consistency and comprehension for the students. 

This is what our year will look like: 

Quarter One: Social studies (first four weeks) Early Humans and the Agricultural Revolution and The Fertile Crescent and Mesopotamia

Quarter One: Science (second four weeks): Matter, Mass, Energy and Molecule

Quarter Two: Science (first four weeks) Gravity, Orbits, Seasons, Tides and Constellations

Quarter Two: Social Studies (second four weeks) Ancient Egypt and Ancient Asian Civilizations

Quarter Three: Social Studies (first four weeks) Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome

Quarter Three: Science (second four weeks) Energy in Ecosystems 

Quarter Four: Science (first four weeks) Human Impact

Quarter Four: Social Studies (last four weeks) World Religion and Cultures of the Eastern Hemisphere
